Bondi Beach Club

Archie meets his friend Mikey for brunch at this antipodean cafe in Surbiton

If you turn off Portsmouth Road, Surbiton into an unassuming boatyard you will find this little riverside gem which is one of my favourite local places! My friend Mikey lives on a boat near here so Gaynor and I like to meet him and his human Ann for brunch or lunch.

They are very dog friendly here, we are allowed anywhere inside or outside and they always bring us some biscuits and water. Mikey and I like to sit outside and watch the comings and goings on the Thames but if the weather is not so good the humans prefer to sit inside.

This winter they have renamed the Bondi Iceberg Club and have made it more cosy inside.

"...Winter is here so it’s out with the surf and in with the ski. We’ve kitted Bondi out with open log fires, cosy blankets, fondue and all that retro ski chalet goodness..."

As you would guess from the name, the menu has an antipodean vibe and they serve food all day every day from 08.00. Gaynor says they have an excellent brunch menu which she is working her way through. It can get very busy from about 11.00 on weekends and can be difficult to get a table outside in summer. We have never booked and always managed to get a table.

We haven’t yet tried dinner there but will do next year and let you know.

This place gets a 3 paws rating from me.

P.s this is how I rate dog friendly places

1 paw - not really dog friendly, more dog tolerant!

2 paws - worth a visit if you are in the area

3 paws - very dog friendly, worth going a little bit out of your way

4 paws - super dog friendly (e.g have dog menu) worth a special trip
